I have recently made a video on “Rice or Wheat Roti for Weight Loss”, but a number of people keep asking me. Can we lose weight while eating rice? I thought that this question is a common one and so I thought of discussing about it today.

You do not need to quit eating rice for weight loss. You do not gain weight by eating rice. You gain weight by eating more amount of rice than required.

The main reason behind it is that rice has a slightly higher glycemic index. Basically, high glycemic index food items digest food at a faster pace and fluctuate our blood sugar levels as well, which makes us hungry sooner.

And so we eat rice in a larger quantity, so that we do not feel hungry for a longer time. And it is quite simple, if we over eat any type of food, we are going to gain weight.

And to solve this, keep the quantity of rice quite low. And keep the quantity of protein rich food quite high, such as dal, rajma and vegetables.

These vegetables have high quantity of both, fiber and protein, which keeps you full for a longer time.

So the problem is not with rice, the problem lies in its quantity. If you eat rice in a limited quantity according to your caloric intake then you can slim down with that too.

But I have personally noted that we Indians eat unbalanced food. For instance, we keep the quantity of roti and rice more in our meals, whereas we should have more of vegetables, dal and beans in our diet, because they give us more nutrition and energy.

Also, we do not feel hungry easily after eating these, and we eat only the amount of calories which is needed.

The topic of balanced diet is quite lengthy. I will be preparing a different video for this soon, because a balanced diet is not only necessary for weight loss but also for staying healthy.
