Today we will talk about weight loss with Methi, Ajwain and Kala Jeera.

You might have heard from your elders many times about the wonderful combination of methi, ajwain and kala jeera for solving health issues, especially for weight loss. While all three work powerfully in cutting down the stubborn body fat, they are effective individually as well. Methi seeds, also known as Fenugreek seeds, are very effective in losing weight.

They improve the metabolism of the body and reduce fat consumption. Ajwain, also known as carom seeds, also increase the metabolic rate of the body, which in turn burns fat. Kala jeera is also known as Black cumin seeds, and it helps in lowering the blood sugar levels, which is ultimately helpful in weight loss.

How to Prepare Methi- Ajwain- Kala Jeera Powder

While many of you have the help of your elders in making this beneficial home remedy for weight loss, let me help those who stay alone and want to prepare and try it.

You will need: 250 grams methi seeds, 100 grams ajwain, 100 grams kala jeera, 3 tablespoons dry ginger powder and 2 tablespoons hing.
Method of preparation:

Step 1: Take a pan and dry roast the methi seeds for around a minute, until it releases a roasted aroma. Keep it aside and let it cool down.
Step 2: Repeat the procedure with ajwain and kala jeera separately.
Step 3: Mix all three roasted ingredients and add the ginger power and hing. Mix well.
Step 4: Blend them together in a grinder until it forms a dry powder.
Store it in an air tight container and in a cool place for future use.

The ingredients are quite easily available. You can either buy it at your nearby grocery store or order it online.


How to Use Methi- Ajwain- Kala Jeera Powder

Well, preparing this mixture was quite easy, wasn’t it? Now let me tell you how to use this powder with which you can lose weight without compromising on the taste.

  1. With water: The easiest way to consume this powder is with warm water. Take 250 ml of water and bring it to a temperature where it reaches the lukewarm stage. Mix the powder and drink it on an empty stomach in the morning or after having a meal.
  2. With curd: Adding this powder to your curd and serving it with rice will not only give you its benefits, but it will also help in enhancing the taste of your meal.
  3. With buttermilk: Everybody loves a glass of chilled buttermilk during summer. Adding this powder will increase the flavor of this beverage and will help you lose weight as well.

As I mentioned above, methi seeds, ajwain and kala jeera work individually and help in losing weight. I shall now notify you of how these ingredients help in weight loss.

Methi seeds

Being rich in fiber, fenugreek seeds help in increasing the metabolic rate of the body and thus help in burning fat. Fiber also helps you keep full for a long time, hence keeping you away from binge eating. It also consists of an important element known as galactomannan, which slows down the absorption of sugar in your blood. In addition, fenugreek seeds have low carbohydrate content, with no unhealthy carbohydrates. So, it prevents you from gaining weight.

We have already discussed about the various ways in which fenugreek seeds help in losing weight along with the recipes in one of our previous article. Some of the ways in which you can consume fenugreek seeds are water soaked fenugreek, fenugreek tea and fenugreek sprouts. So, fenugreek seeds help in losing weight in a number of ways.


Ajwain, or carom seeds also help in weight loss. Similar to fenugreek seeds, ajwain also increases the metabolic rate and burns fat. Ajwain also has a laxative property, which helps in reducing the water weight. Water weight can make you look bloated and add to the extra weight of the body. It is also high in the chemical thymol, which increases food absorption and secretion of gastric juices.

Consuming ajwain seeds on a regular basis can help in improving the digestive system and gives you relief from indigestion and constipation, helping in proper breakdown of food and a faster metabolism. Kala jeera

Kala jeera, or Black cumin seeds, is an effective weight loss ingredient. Consuming kala jeera helps in releasing insulin, which ultimately lowers blood sugar levels. A balanced blood sugar level keeps your hunger away and does not allow you to add extra calories to your body. Kala jeera has a property of reducing bad cholesterol and reduces the risks of heart problems. It is really effective in reducing the fat around belly area.

Kala jeera is known to have a diuretic effect, which is useful in losing water weight. as discussed above, bloating and water weight can cause unnecessary weight gain, which can be combated through use of kala jeera.

    Thank you for explaining why this powder works. We – my husband and I – have been trying it for about three weeks now, mixing a heaped teaspoon in a glass of buttermilk. We know it’ll take a while for the results to show, but feel good that we’re on the way. How long did you do it before you noticed weight reduction?

      Supriya, Dont worry about weight gain during Pregnancy, its normal but still there are few ways you can control that, You can view those tips here.

      Also I dont think, there is any harm of eating Fenugreek and Carom seeds during pregnancy but i also suggest you to take doctors advice, as its very sensitive issue.
